Ulrich Gehret

1944 born in Crantz (East Prussia), lives in Belém (BRA) and Berlin (GER)

1968-1973 studies painting at the colleges of fine arts in Berlin and Hamburg

1992 Teaching at the University of Costa Rica

1993-1994 Visiting Professor at the Universidad de los Andes Bogotá (COL)

From 1992-2000 Ulrich Gehret was represented at Art Basel by Galerie m, Bochum (GER)

U. Gehret creates pictures that are never only committed to the image, they break old-established genre boundaries to the obcjectual with Assemblage character. Included are finds he encountered while traveling. They are part of the artistic process as a symbol of time. Often they get a paraffin layer, which gives them an opaque and archaic impression.
